PRESIDENT’S BLOG
APRIL 2010
Last month, the District Convention took place at Lion’s Quays Hotel, near Oswestry. Over the weekend, 15 of our 29 members and 9 wives attended the various functions. We were the best represented club at the event. Lion Wyn Jones won the golf competition and Pam Greig, wife of our member, Zone Chairman Ken, won the ladies’ competition. Lion Geoff Mitchell was Convention Chairman and Sergeant at Arms. Zone Chairman Ken had four of the clubs in his Zone organising one part or other of the event. District Officer Dave Evans was a member of two teams of officers presenting reports to the Convention. On the Friday night, members took part in the Kings and Queens fancy dress host night. Freddie Mercury was a popular subject at the event but only Flint had him accompanied by Brian May! (George Silcock and Dave Gregory): Vice President Peter McCracken was Elvis! Others played the part of drag queens but seemed nearer to the Panto-Dame genre! They are in the photo gallery. Look if you dare!
We are fast approaching the plant sales day! Leaflets are being delivered: plans are in had for the vehicles to deliver and the trays to carry the plants. The onus is very much with Lion Geoff Mitchell as he receives and collates the orders. We depend on him to a considerable extent as the information is gathered and allotted to a delivery round. He knows, from past experience, that on the day, the club members, the members’ wives and our friends will turn up in force to ensure the success of the exercise.
As I write this Blog, we are fast approaching the Easter Holiday. The club have been invited by Sainsbury’s Supermarket to hold two bucket collections at their store over the holiday. We shall be there with Leo Flint, our friendly lion, and with the Easter bunny.
In my November Blog, I wrote about Lion Ken’s Zone project to support the Buzz Ah charity. Their show will be performed at Mold on 15 and 16 April. The club have donated £530 to the cause and Ken has raised £102.50 at a Zone Social. I hope the other clubs in the Zone will make generous donations to this very worthwhile cause.
If you are bothering to count them, this is the tenth blog! Only 2 to go!
I wish you all a happy Easter.
