MARCH 2010
Last month, I posed the question as to whether becoming involved with Twitter would make me a “twit”. I end this month knowing that I am a “prat in a hat”. Thank goodness I have only three more blogs after this.
On an annual basis we assist Marie Curie Cancer Care with their collections in Flint. It used to be a cold job in February in Church Street, but, now, it involves holding cans in supermarkets. Much warmer! Our first teams attended Aldi, a new venue for the club. On the last Saturday of February, we attended Sainsbury’s. Have a look at the photos in Gallery to see the hats! The teams were very well received, mostly, I have no doubt, because of the public’s respect for this wonderful charity. I suspect others donated because of the hats - they were a source of varied observations! At one stage, we suspected Lion Norman was doing good business because he wasn’t wearing a hat. The truth was that the hat fell over his ears and hid his face!
During February, members and wives attended Charter Anniversaries in Middle Marches, Wrexham and West Kirby. It was Wrexham’s 47th Anniversary. They are 10 years senior to us and attending their dinner reminded me that we are fast approaching the 50th anniversary of Chester’s Charter. They are our parent club and we hope to attend that evening in good numbers.
We are also approaching our charter night in May. We attended Holiday Inn at Northop Hall last week. Lion Bryn Jones and his committee have been working hard on the project and I’m sure it will be a wonderful night. In recent years, the hotel staff has looked after us extremely well: it was clear that they know exactly what we want and I’m sure you will all enjoy a memorable evening: please keep May 14th clear in your diaries!
The club members will be attending District Convention at Lion Quay in March.: More than 20 of us are stopping for the whole weekend and others will come across for the business session. Many will take part in the fancy dress evening on the Friday night – I just hope I’m not apologising for them in my next blog!
